    virtual memory (VM) -
      Synonymous with virtual storage.
    virtual storage -
      (1) The storage space that may be regarded as addressable main storage by the user of a computer system in which virtual addresses are mapped into real addresses. The size of virtual storage is limited by the addressing scheme of the computer system and by the amount of auxiliary storage available, not by the actual number of main storage locations. (I) (A) (2) Addressable space that is apparent to the user as the processor storage space, from which the instructions and the data are mapped into the processor storage locations. (3) Synonymous with virtual memory.
    visible region -
      A window's presentation space, clipped to the boundary of the window and the boundaries of any overlying window.
    volume -
      (1) A file-system driver that uses a block device driver for input and output operations to a local or remote device. (I) (2) A portion of data, together with its data carrier, that can be handled conveniently as a unit.
