wide area network (WAN)
A data communications
network designed to serve an area of hundreds or thousands of miles; such
as public and private packet-switching networks and national telephone networks.
Contrast with local area network (LAN).
window
(1) A portion of a display surface in which
display images pertaining to a particular application can be presented.
Different applications can be displayed simultaneously in different windows.
(A) (2) An area of the screen with visible boundaries within which information
is displayed. A window can be smaller than, or the same size as, the screen.
(3) A division of a screen in which one of several programs being executed
concurrently can display information.
